Film: Cowboy Bebop + Keanu Reeves = Epic Failure!

Lawrence - Obama - Smith - Awesome
So. They are “making” a new Bad Boys film. Fantastic news! I really do enjoy the comedy coupling of Smith and Lawrence. They bring a sense of relativity to the otherwise White American ‘talking-in-a-gruff-voice-at-a-crime-scene’ type action flicks that dominate the Hollywood market. Well, you know…as much as a young, twelve stone, white boy can relate to two African American police offers.
Sadly, I continued down the article I was reading, to discover they were making a live-action version of one of my favourite anime series/films: ‘Cowboy Bebop’. Staring no other than my least favourite person of the moment, Keanu Reeves. A man with about as much on-screen personality as a Wagon Wheel with the jammy centre missing. What happened, Keanu? You amused me so with ‘Bill & Ted’, but since then all you have done is played emotionless cops and boring Internet geeks. Snores-ville! How is it that you keep getting cast, exactly?
Do the people who come up with these adaptation not stop and ask themselves questions such as, “Why do we need a live action version of this already terrific animated film?” The short answer is: “No. They do not”. I mean for goodness sake! As if Leonardo DeCaprio doing ‘Akira‘ isn’t already enough of a bloody scandal.
2011 is going to be a tough one to get through for people that genuinely love film.
